UNIUYO VC Inaugurates Advisory Committee to Strengthen Renewal and Restoration Agenda

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), Prof. Christopher N. Ekong, has inaugurated an Advisory Committee to provide strategic counsel and support to his administration in its efforts to reposition the university and deepen its Renewal and Restoration Agenda.

The Committee comprises distinguished academics, professionals, traditional leaders, alumni and other accomplished stakeholders who are expected to bring their wealth of experience and expertise to bear on the administration’s efforts to advance the development of the university.

The inauguration took place on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Main Campus, Nwaniba Road, Uyo, with members of the university’s Management Team in attendance.

Addressing the Committee, Prof. Ekong thanked the members for accepting to serve and expressed confidence that their knowledge, experience and wisdom would contribute significantly to the transformation and advancement of the university.

The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed his commitment to repositioning the institution and assured the Committee that he would remain focused on the task before his administration.

According to Prof. Ekong, the Committee would provide valuable guidance in critical areas of the university’s development, including academic revival, institutional renaissance, infrastructural revitalisation, financial growth, effective governance and other strategic areas.

Prof. Ekong subsequently announced Emeritus Professor Akpan Hogan Ekpo, a Professor of Economics and Public Policy and former Vice-Chancellor of the university, as Chairman of the Committee.

Other members of the Committee are former Vice-Chancellors, Professor Akaneren Essien, Professor Comfort Ekpo and Pioneer Distinguished Professor Enefiok Essien, SAN.

Also on the Committee are former Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Professor Trenchard Ibia, Professor Charles Uko, Professor Okon Ansa and Professor Anthonia Essien, as well as Professor Innocent Modo and Professor Kingsley Akpabio.

Other members include the former Registrar of the university, His Royal Highness, Obong P. J. Effiong; Pioneer Alumni President of the university, Obong Ide Owodiong-Idemeko; and the Alumni President, Mr. Ekerete Adiaiduo.

Mr. Uduak Vincent will serve as Secretary to the Committee.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Chairman of the Committee, Emeritus Professor Akpan H. Ekpo, pledged the Committee’s total support for the Vice-Chancellor and assured him that its members would deploy their expertise and experience towards the advancement of the university.

Emeritus Professor Ekpo expressed delight at the achievements recorded by the Vice-Chancellor within a relatively short period and assured that the Committee would do its best to support the administration in the realisation of its vision for the university.

The inauguration marks another significant step by the Management of the University of Uyo to broaden stakeholder participation and strengthen collective efforts towards the sustainable development and advancement of the institution.
