The Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE), through its NLNG Cell of the Rivers/Bayelsa Chapter, has renewed efforts to revive the Centre of Excellence at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas (FPOG), Bonny, Rivers State, originally designated in 2018.

The renewed initiative followed a visit by an NSChE delegation to the institution on October 23, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and reactivate the Centre of Excellence.
The delegation comprised Engr. Ekhorutomwen Osemwinyen, MNSChE; Engr. Wilson Dadet, FNSChE; Engr. Osondu Opara, FNSChE; Engr. Philip Abolarin, MNSChE; Engr. Frederick Kanu, MNSChE; and Engr. Bashir Umar.
During the visit, the delegation explained that the relationship between the society and the institution had weakened following changes in institutional leadership, affecting the continuity of the Centre of Excellence initiative.
Responding, the Rector of FPOG, Dr Okolobah, assured the society of the institution’s full cooperation in achieving its objectives.
He noted that reviving the Centre of Excellence would be mutually beneficial to the polytechnic, the engineering profession and the wider society.

The renewed partnership is expected to strengthen collaboration between FPOG and NSChE while promoting academic, professional and institutional development in line with the objectives of the Centre of Excellence initiative.
