Universities Issue Directives as NUC Discontinues HND-to-BSc Conversion Programmes

Universities across Nigeria have started informing students and the public of the suspension of Higher National Diploma (HND) conversion and top-up degree programmes following a directive from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Institutions such as Kwara State University, Malete, and Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, have already announced the discontinuation of admissions into these programmes.

While the directive explicitly terminates new admissions into these conversion structures, the fate of thousands of students currently undergoing the programmes remains unclear. Institutional updates, including the statement from KWASU, indicate that the university community is awaiting further specific guidelines from the NUC regarding the status and graduation parameters of already enrolled cohorts.
