University of Ibadan Promotes 34 Academics to Professorial Cadre, Elevates Two Librarians

The University of Ibadan has promoted 34 academics to professorial positions, including Dr. Alarudeen Aminu, Chairman of the Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Economic Society. The promotions, approved during the university’s May 2026 Appointments and Promotions Committee meeting, cut across several faculties including Medicine, Arts, Education, Engineering, Agriculture, and Social Sciences.

The University of Ibadan has announced the promotion of 34 academics to professorial positions, alongside the elevation of two Principal Librarians to the rank of Deputy Librarian.The promotions were approved during the institution’s Appointments and Promotions Committee meeting for Academic Staff held on May 20 and 21, 2026, reflecting the university’s continued commitment to recognising excellence in teaching, research, and academic service.

Among the beneficiaries is the Chairman of the Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Economic Society, Dr. Alarudeen Aminu, a lecturer in the Department of Economics. He was among the 22 Readers elevated to the rank of Professor.

Also promoted to the professorial cadre is Dr. Babatunde Ojebuyi of the Department of Communication and Language Arts, who moved directly from Senior Lecturer to Professor.

The newly promoted professors cut across several faculties and disciplines, including Medicine, Arts, Education, Social Sciences, Engineering, Agriculture, Pharmacy, and Library Studies.

Those promoted from Reader to Professor include Dr. C. Okoye of Theatre Arts, Dr. Ibironke A. Ajayi of Chemistry, Dr. B. O. Ololajulo of Archaeology and Anthropology, Dr. S. A. Famuyiwa of Health Education, and Dr. K. A. Aramide of School Library and Media Technology.

Others are Dr. A. I. Atanda of Educational Management, Dr. Olajumoke O. Fayinminnu of Crop Protection and Environmental Biology, Dr. I. M. Ojedokun of Social Work, Dr. O. O. Ogunbode of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Dr. D. A. Adewole of Health Policy and Management.

Additional beneficiaries include Dr. P. O. Olaojo of Library, Archival and Information Studies, Dr. C. O. Omoregie of Adult Education, Dr. Olukemi O. Tongo of Paediatrics, Dr. Adenike T. Adeniji-Sofoluwe of Radiology, and Dr. O. A. Oyeranti of Economics.

Also promoted are Dr. Serifat Akorede from the Institute of Education, Dr. Tolulope O. Ajala of Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy, Dr. Adesola O. Opesade and Dr. Funmilola O. Omotayo of Data and Information Science, Dr. A. S. Akinrinde of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry, and Dr. Y. R. Raji of Medicine.

In the same exercise, the university elevated 11 Senior Lecturers to the rank of Reader. Those promoted include Dr. Oluwafunmiso A. of Agricultural Economics, Dr. S. A. Ademuyiwa of European Studies, Dr. Temitayo O. Ajayi of Pharmacology, Dr. Eniola O. Cadmus of Community Medicine, and Dr. T. O. Odeyale of Architecture.

Others promoted to Reader are Dr. Oluwafunmilayo O. Adeleye of Animal Science, Dr. C. T. Akinsete of English, Dr. Folake O. Akintayo of Civil Engineering, Dr. Oluwaseun A. Otekunrin of Statistics, Dr. Nnenna W. Odozi of Chemistry, and Dr. Tolulope E. Kolajo of Wood Products Engineering.

Within the library cadre, Dr. Francisca N. Okoroma and Dr. Titilayo C. Ilesanmi of the Kenneth Dike Library were promoted from Principal Librarian to Deputy Librarian.
