The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has intensified preparations for the upcoming Nasarawa State North Senatorial election scheduled for June, with assurances that operational and logistical arrangements are at an advanced stage.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has intensified preparations for the upcoming Nasarawa State North Senatorial election scheduled for June, with assurances that operational and logistical arrangements are at an advanced stage.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Nasarawa State, Malam Muhammad Abubakar-Sadiq, disclosed this during a strategic engagement with the management of the Federal University of Lafia, aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration ahead of the polls.

The senatorial district covers Akwanga, Wamba, and Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Areas.

Abubakar-Sadiq stated that the visit was part of efforts to build stronger partnerships with key institutions in the state to ensure credible and inclusive electoral processes.

He noted that the final phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise would end in July, adding that more than 106,000 new voters had been registered in Nasarawa State during the exercise.

According to him, INEC has intensified preparations for the election, including the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and improvements in voter data management systems to enhance transparency and efficiency.

The REC also explained that his assumption of duty in the state prompted a series of courtesy visits to strategic stakeholders, including the university community, to deepen cooperation and improve electoral outcomes.

He appealed for continued support from the university, stressing that collaboration with academic institutions remains critical to strengthening democratic processes and civic participation.

In his response, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) of FULAFIA, Professor Ilemona Adofu, speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Isa Kida, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting INEC in promoting credible elections.

He described the university as a key stakeholder in democratic governance and assured the commission of its readiness to contribute to transparency, voter education, and electoral integrity.

The engagement reflects ongoing efforts by INEC to deepen institutional partnerships as part of its broader strategy to enhance electoral credibility and public trust in the democratic process.
