Alaafin of Oyo Pledges Royal Backing for Ajayi Crowther University Expansion Plans
The Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has pledged continued royal support for the growth and development of Ajayi Crowther University, reaffirming the palace’s commitment to strengthening ties with the institution.

The monarch made the pledge while receiving a delegation from the university’s management team led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Ebunoluwa Oduwole during a courtesy visit to his palace in Oyo.
Oba Owoade stated that the palace remains open to the university leadership and is ready to support initiatives that advance the institution’s development and contribute to the growth of the community.
He also assured that ongoing collaboration with security agencies would be sustained to maintain peace and stability within Oyo town, noting that security arrangements are already in place to support a safe environment for residents and institutions.
In her remarks, Professor Oduwole appreciated the Alaafin for his consistent support, including his presence at the university’s recent convocation ceremony, describing his engagement as a strong encouragement to the institution.
She informed the monarch of the university’s plan to introduce Medicine and Pharmacy programmes, adding that discussions on establishing facilities for a teaching hospital were at an advanced stage.

The Vice-Chancellor sought the support of the traditional institution in facilitating access to appropriate medical infrastructure to support the proposed expansion.
In response, the Alaafin expressed willingness to further support the university’s medical and academic development initiatives, noting that the palace would continue to partner with the institution whenever required.
He also revealed plans to establish a modern civic centre and hospital near the university’s gate, adding that the institution would be granted access to the facilities upon completion.
The visit also provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss broader issues affecting students, indigenes, and the overall development of Oyo town.
Members of the Vice-Chancellor’s delegation included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Afolake Olanbiwonninu; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Olukayode Binuyo; Registrar, Dr Bode Olofinmuagun; Bursar, Dr Ayodele Olusanwo; University Librarian, Dr Bosede Ajiboye; and other senior officials.

The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen town-and-gown relations between the university and its host community.
