The Senate of the Federal University Lokoja (FULOKOJA) has approved the commencement of postgraduate programmes in the Department of Mass Communication, marking a significant expansion of the university’s academic portfolio.

The approval was granted during the institution’s 101st statutory Senate meeting held on May 14, 2026, following the review of the department’s academic proposal and accreditation readiness report.

According to the university management, the new approval is aimed at strengthening advanced training in journalism, media studies, communication, and public relations to meet growing industry and academic demands.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Solomon Gbenga Ibileye, described the development as a strategic milestone aligned with the institution’s drive to expand access to quality postgraduate education and respond to national and global communication needs.

He noted that the Department of Mass Communication had demonstrated adequate preparedness in terms of staffing, infrastructure, and curriculum design to support the new academic programmes.

The Provost of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Olarotimi Mathew Ajayi, disclosed that the approved programmes will include Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in selected areas of communication studies.

He added that the university has strengthened its academic facilities, including upgraded studios and improved research infrastructure, in preparation for the rollout of the programmes.

The institution stated that the postgraduate programmes will commence soon, as final administrative processes are concluded to ensure smooth implementation.
