Federal University Lokoja Vice-Chancellor Congratulates Abdulrazaq Isa Kutepa on WEC-Nigeria Chairmanship

The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, has congratulated Alhaji Abdulrazaq Isa Kutepa, OFR, on his appointment as Chairman of the World Energy Council – Nigeria (WEC-Nigeria) and the inauguration of the country’s pioneer National Member Committee of the global energy body.

The appointment, which has received the commendation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, comes as Nigeria formally joins the World Energy Council, a global platform committed to advancing sustainable energy systems and promoting dialogue on energy security, equity, affordability and sustainability.

President Tinubu, in welcoming Nigeria into the World Energy Council, described the development as a proud moment for the country and a strong vote of confidence in Nigeria’s ongoing energy reforms and its emerging leadership role in Africa’s energy sector. The President also congratulated the inaugural leadership of WEC-Nigeria, led by Alhaji Abdulrazaq Isa as Chairman and Mr Bala Wunti as Chief Executive Officer.

The World Energy Council has equally confirmed that Nigeria’s newly established Member Committee is governed by a distinguished Board drawn from the public and private sectors, academia and international energy institutions, with Alhaji Abdulrazaq Isa serving as Chairman.

Reacting to the development, Professor Ibileye described Alhaji Kutepa’s emergence as a significant recognition of his decades of contributions to Nigeria’s business and energy sectors, as well as his commitment to indigenous enterprise, industrial development and national advancement.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the appointment is particularly remarkable because it places an accomplished Nigerian entrepreneur at the forefront of a platform that will contribute to shaping conversations and strategies around the future of energy in Nigeria and Africa.

Professor Ibileye noted that Alhaji Kutepa’s record in the oil and gas industry speaks eloquently of his capacity for visionary leadership, strategic thinking, innovation and enterprise. He said the new responsibility could not have come at a more important time, given the centrality of energy to Nigeria’s economic transformation, industrialisation, job creation and sustainable development.

The Vice-Chancellor further observed that Alhaji Kutepa’s over three decades of professional experience in banking, finance and the energy industry have equipped him with the breadth of knowledge, exposure and leadership capacity required to provide effective direction for WEC-Nigeria.

He said the appointment of Alhaji Abdulrazaq Isa Kutepa as Chairman of WEC-Nigeria is a befitting recognition of a distinguished Nigerian who has consistently demonstrated that indigenous enterprise, when driven by vision, courage and excellence, can compete and make meaningful impact on the global stage.

Professor Ibileye added that Nigeria’s admission into the World Energy Council, coupled with the emergence of Alhaji Kutepa as the inaugural Chairman of its Nigerian Member Committee, provides a fresh opportunity for the country to deepen international collaboration, strengthen energy partnerships and contribute more decisively to global conversations on energy security and sustainability.

The Vice-Chancellor particularly expressed confidence that Alhaji Kutepa would bring his wealth of experience, entrepreneurial ingenuity and patriotic commitment to bear on the new assignment.
