Apapa-Iganmu LCDA Chairman Pledges Support For Vulnerable Students To Study At LASUED

The Executive Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Honourable Jimoh Olawale Salisu, has expressed his commitment to sponsoring vulnerable young people from the council area to study at Lagos State University of Education (LASUED).

Honourable Salisu made the commitment during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of LASUED, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, and members of the university management at the institution’s main campus in Oto/Ijanikin on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

The visit focused on creating educational opportunities for young people from Apapa-Iganmu who may face financial challenges in accessing university education.

Welcoming the council chairman and his delegation, Professor Lafiaji-Okuneye commended the initiative, describing it as a demonstration of commitment to youth development and access to quality education.

She praised Honourable Salisu for prioritising education and supporting young people in achieving their academic aspirations.

Speaking during the visit, the council chairman said his goal was to empower youths in Apapa-Iganmu through education and provide them with opportunities to build successful futures.

“My focus is to educate the youths of Apapa-Iganmu so that they can become great in the future. LASUED is the First Among the Best, and I want them to come to this University,” Salisu said.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor assured the chairman that eligible candidates from the council area would be considered for admission into LASUED.

She also encouraged the council chairman to continue monitoring and supporting the sponsored students to ensure they remain focused, disciplined and committed to their studies.

Professor Lafiaji-Okuneye further pledged the university’s support in facilitating the admission process for qualified prospective students from Apapa-Iganmu LCDA.

The partnership highlights the role of collaboration between educational institutions and local governments in expanding access to higher education and supporting vulnerable students.
