OGITECH School of Engineering Launches Bi-Monthly Lecture to Drive Industrial Self-Reliance

The School of Engineering Technology (SET) at the Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, has launched its bi-monthly lecture series in a move to promote engineering innovation and industrial self-reliance.

The maiden edition of the lecture was held on Wednesday, 16th September, 2026, at the Institute's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Hall. The event attracted Deans of Schools, Heads of Departments, Directors, staff and students.

The initiative aligns with the human capital development vision of the Rector, Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, aimed at raising academic standards and inspiring homegrown engineering solutions.

The keynote address was delivered by Engr. Kaffo Omoniyi Paul, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department and member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). Speaking on Optimising Material Selection and Metal Machining for Nigerian Industrial Performance and Self-Reliance, Engr. Kaffo emphasised the need for precise material selection to boost domestic industrial output and reduce dependence on foreign innovations.

He called on the Federal Government to overhaul the national education curriculum to better harness annual student research, noting that leveraging academic research alongside Nigeria's vast natural resources would help address societal challenges and improve quality of life.

In his remarks, the Dean of the School of Engineering Technology and host of the event, Engr. Dr. Dauda Adekunle Folarin, commended the Institute's Management under Dr. Oluseye for supporting professional development and staff aspirations.

The Chairman of the Organising Committee, Engr. Ibiyemi Olukemi Ifeka, explained that the bi-monthly platform was established to encourage continuous knowledge sharing, exchange of practical experiences and technological advancement between academics and industry experts.

The event ended with a vote of thanks delivered by the Director of the Robotics and Innovation Centre, Engr. Osamonyi Ighodalo Omofuma, who commended the Dean for his visionary leadership and described the Rector's stewardship as transformative for the Institute.
