FUASK Concludes Two-Day Staff Orientation on Building Enduring University Culture

The Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia (FUASK) has concluded a two-day orientation programme for academic and non-teaching staff aimed at strengthening institutional culture and promoting professionalism.

The orientation, held on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th September, 2026, at the University's 500-Seater Auditorium, was themed Building an Enduring University Culture. The programme featured presentations by invited experts and focused on governance, ethics, quality assurance, finance, staff welfare, security, research and innovation.

In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. William Barnabas Qurix, OFR, FNIA, outlined the University's strategic direction. He noted that a culture anchored on discipline, integrity, professionalism and innovation is critical to FUASK's long-term growth, and called on all staff to contribute to the institution's development.

The first day of the programme featured sessions on university governance by Mr. Chris Maiyaki, former Acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), who explained the roles of Council, Senate and Management in decision-making. Dr. Rejoice James Songden, Registrar of the University of Jos, spoke on administration and staff welfare, while Dr. Nte Bisong, Deputy Director, Open and Distance Learning, NUC, delivered a presentation on quality assurance. FUASK Registrar, Prof. Adamu Sanusi Gambo, addressed work ethics, emphasizing accountability, integrity and regulatory compliance. The day ended with a question and answer session moderated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Alexander Kure.

The second day covered financial accountability, modern library services, security, staff wellness, research and innovation. Presentations were made by Iliyasu Abdulrauf Bello, Senior Deputy Registrar, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; Prof. Daniel Abubakar, University Librarian; ACP Philip Dogo (Rtd.), Chief Security Officer; Prof. Lazarus Yusufu Mungu, Director of Health Services and Provost, College of Medicine; and Prof. Ben A. Chindo, Director of Research and Innovation.

The programme concluded with an interactive session led by Prof. Ezekiel Nghai Suleiman, Dean, Faculty of Architecture. In his closing remarks, the Registrar, Prof. Adamu Sanusi Gambo, thanked the Vice-Chancellor, resource persons, organizers and participants, and urged staff to sustain cooperation, dedication and professionalism in advancing the University's goals.

According to the University, the orientation provided staff with a clearer understanding of institutional expectations, created opportunities for cross-unit networking, and reinforced commitment to building an accountable and enduring university culture.
