University of Ibadan Space Club Inaugurated to Inspire Next Generation of Space Innovators

The Centre for Space Life Sciences (CSLS) of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) has inaugurated the University of Ibadan Space Club at the Department of Physics, University of Ibadan.

The inauguration, held under the theme “Inspire the Next Generation,” was conducted by the Acting Director of CSLS, Dr. Olakunle Rufus Oladosu. The event brought together students and space science enthusiasts for discussions on opportunities in space science, innovation, research and technology.

Dr. Oladosu said the club would serve as a platform for exposing students to the growing opportunities available in space science, technology and related fields.

He explained that areas of engagement would include space medicine, data science, radio telescope building, community outreach and ASPEX 2026. According to him, the initiative is designed to provide young minds with opportunities to learn, experiment, collaborate and develop solutions to real-world problems.

The Acting Director explained that membership of the Space Club would be restricted to students, with executive members expected to coordinate its activities and ensure effective functionality.

He added that while students would drive the activities of the club, the Centre for Space Life Sciences would provide support and professional guidance.

The inauguration featured engaging discussions on the possibilities within space science, innovation, research and technology.

Participants were also introduced to the purpose of the club, its expected membership and its role in promoting space education, innovation and knowledge sharing among students.

The event further highlighted the importance of building a community of students equipped with relevant knowledge, skills and innovative ideas to contribute to the development of Nigeria’s space sector.

The inauguration marks the establishment of a platform through which University of Ibadan students can engage more directly with contemporary developments in space science while developing practical, collaborative and innovative capabilities.
