UNIZIK Lecturer Secures Prestigious African-Japan AJ-CORE Research Grant

A Lecturer I in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, Faculty of Physical Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Dr. Chidera Courage Offor, has been named a recipient of the prestigious African-Japan Collaborative Research (AJ-CORE) Grant Award, marking another significant milestone in the university's growing international research profile.

The achievement was conveyed in a letter dated June 16, 2026, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie. In the letter, Dr. Offor formally informed the university management of the award and requested that the accomplishment be featured in the institution's official publications.

The AJ-CORE grant was awarded to a multinational team of researchers in recognition of the scientific merit and collaborative strength of their proposed project titled, "Aerosol Trace Element Deposition and Bioaccessibility over the Southern Ocean (ADSO)."

Dr. Offor serves as the Principal Investigator (PI) representing Nnamdi Azikiwe University on the international research team, working alongside researchers from several institutions across the world. The appointment highlights the university's expanding research capacity and increasing global visibility in advanced scientific research.

Although the official award letter had not yet been issued at the time of the notification, Dr. Offor attached the published list of successful projects from the programme's official website as confirmation of the award.

The recognition further strengthens Nnamdi Azikiwe University's reputation for research excellence, international collaboration and scientific innovation, while showcasing the quality and global competitiveness of its academic staff.
