UNIZIK VC Assures Town Planners of Support for Full Professional Accreditation

The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Bond Anyaehie, has assured the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Anambra State Chapter, of the University's support towards securing full professional accreditation for the Department of Urban and Regional Planning.

The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Bond Anyaehie, has assured the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Anambra State Chapter, of the University's support towards securing full professional accreditation for the Department of Urban and Regional Planning.

Professor Anyaehie gave the assurance on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, when he received a delegation of the NITP Anambra State Chapter on a courtesy visit to his office at Administrative Block A.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Okoye Chinedu introduced the delegation to the Vice-Chancellor and highlighted the Institute's ongoing activities marking its 60th Anniversary.

The delegation was led by the Chairman of the 60th Anniversary Planning Committee, Tpl. Dr J.O.J. Ulasi, alongside the outgoing Head of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Tpl. Dr Alom Anselm Chukwuma.

Speaking on behalf of the Institute, Tpl. Dr Ulasi reaffirmed the NITP Anambra State Chapter's commitment to supporting the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, particularly in its ongoing efforts to attain full professional accreditation.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor warmly welcomed the delegation and commended the NITP Anambra State Chapter for its sustained commitment to the advancement of the town planning profession.

Professor Anyaehie assured the delegation that the University would provide all necessary support to enable the Department to secure full professional accreditation. He also reaffirmed his administration's commitment to strengthening the Department and deepening the existing partnership between Nnamdi Azikiwe University and the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners.

In his closing remarks, Tpl. Dr Chukwuma expressed optimism about the Vice-Chancellor's assurances, noting that Professor Anyaehie had consistently kept his word in previous engagements.

He further pledged the Department's continued commitment to producing graduates equipped with the knowledge and professional competence required to advance and champion the town planning profession in the years ahead.
