ACU Mourns Death of Ven. Dr. Job Oluremi Okunoye

Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, has announced the death of The Venerable Dr. Job Oluremi Okunoye, a distinguished scholar, clergyman and administrator, who passed away on Wednesday evening, August 5, 2026.

Dr. Okunoye, an Associate Professor of Old Testament and an Archdeacon in the Anglican Communion, served Ajayi Crowther University in several capacities until his death.

He was the Acting Head of the Department of Religion and Development Studies from December 1, 2022, to July 31, 2024. He also served as a member of the University's Senate, Coordinator of Part-Time Studies, former Coordinator of the ACU Bread Factory and a Member of the Special Marshall of Ajayi Crowther University.

A priest and scholar, Dr. Okunoye held B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees, with research interests covering Old Testament language and literature, biblical interpretation, and the intersections between Christian theology, leadership and governance.

His scholarly contributions made a significant impact on theological education in Nigeria.

In July 2022, Dr. Okunoye was collated as an Archdeacon in the Anglican Diocese of Ibadan, Church of Nigeria, reflecting the high regard in which he was held within both academic and ecclesiastical circles.

Until his death, Dr. Okunoye served as the Director of General Studies at Ajayi Crowther University.

The Vice-Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Professor Ebunoluwa Oduwole, extended her heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the Department of Religion and Development Studies and the entire University community.

She prayed that God would grant Dr. Okunoye eternal rest.

"His departure is a painful loss to our institution and the body of Christ," Professor Oduwole stated. "We commit his soul to the Lord," she added.

Burial arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
