Ajayi Crowther University Trains 864 Final-Year and Penultimate Students on Project Writing

The T.Y. Danjuma Library of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, has organised a weeklong research workshop on project writing for final-year and penultimate-level undergraduate students as part of efforts to strengthen students' research and academic writing skills.

The workshop, organised by the management of the university library, covered three major modules: developing a researchable topic and reviewing related literature; accessing and utilising library resources for project writing; and the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in academic writing, alongside the Turnitin process.

Each module was delivered by a different facilitator drawn from the university's library staff.

The workshop also targeted penultimate-level students to encourage them to begin preparations for their final-year research projects early, considering that project writing is a major requirement for the award of a bachelor's degree.

The organisers also highlighted the importance of the programme for students preparing to undertake the Students' Industrial and Work Experience Schemes/Industrial Training (SIWES/IT). Participants were encouraged to remain open-minded during their industrial placements and identify potential research areas within their respective disciplines to make project writing easier upon their return for the final stage of their studies.

For effective coordination, the university's 13 faculties were divided into four groups, with students from designated faculties attending on specific days scheduled for their respective groups.

One of the major recommendations given to participants was to propose research topics that align with their supervisors' academic disciplines or areas of research interest.

A total of 864 students participated in the weeklong workshop.

The initiative forms part of the university library's commitment to supporting undergraduate research, promoting responsible academic writing and equipping students with the skills required to complete their final-year projects successfully.
