The workshop titled Enhancing Road Safety Ethical Policing and Professional Driving Skills brought together experts and stakeholders to equip drivers with practical knowledge on defensive driving health and wellness vehicle maintenance and ethical conduct.
Speaking at the opening ceremony Vice Chancellor Professor Ebunoluwa Oduwole described the workshop as timely and emphasized that drivers are professionals who should strive for excellence particularly in matters of safety.
She urged participants to obey traffic regulations avoid speeding and refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol stressing that road safety begins with discipline.
The Vice Chancellor also highlighted the importance of regular vehicle maintenance stating that human life must always take priority over speed or financial gain.
Professor Oduwole encouraged drivers to demonstrate competence courtesy and professionalism noting that they serve as ambassadors of both her office and the university. She added that ACU remains committed to promoting responsibility discipline sound decision making and excellence among its staff and students.

Director of Works and Services Engineer Oluwole Olaniyi described the programme as the first workshop organized for drivers in the university's history. He commended the Vice Chancellor for the initiative and encouraged participants to maximize the opportunity to improve their skills.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC led by Assistant Corps Commander Sunday Adeyemi advised drivers to remain safety conscious and avoid speeding reckless driving driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and other forms of distraction while behind the wheel.
The FRSC team emphasized the importance of defensive driving saying it helps save lives reduce travel time and minimize financial losses. Drivers were encouraged to remain alert monitor road conditions and strictly comply with traffic regulations.
Director of Health Services Dr. Olumuyiwa Omotesho spoke on health and wellness urging drivers to manage stress get adequate rest and maintain healthy lifestyles to reduce fatigue and improve concentration while driving.

He also encouraged participants to eat balanced meals include fruits in their diet exercise regularly and always observe speed limits.
The workshop featured a session on vehicle maintenance and diagnostics facilitated by Engineer Daniel Joseph who advised drivers to pay close attention to brake performance tyre condition engine overheating and unusual vehicle sounds.
He encouraged regular vehicle servicing routine inspection of critical components before every journey and prompt repairs by qualified mechanics. He added that pre trip inspections can prevent breakdowns reduce maintenance costs and save lives.
At the end of the first day of the workshop participants reaffirmed the need for everyone in the university community especially drivers to uphold the highest standards of safety professionalism and responsibility in the discharge of their duties.
