Ahmadu Bello University to Host Free Eye Health Outreach as Part of 45th Convocation Ceremony
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has announced a free eye health outreach program for the university community, coinciding with the activities lined up for its 45th Convocation Ceremony. The initiative is a collaborative effort with the AMA Foundation.
The outreach is scheduled to take place over three days, from Thursday, January 29, 2026, to Saturday, January 31, 2026. Services will be available daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The locations are as follows:
January 29 & 30, 2026: Senate Building Main Entrance
January 31, 2026: ABU Medical Centre (Sickbay)
The program aims to provide vital optical support services to a wide range of attendees, including students, staff, alumni, dignitaries, and visitors. The services offered include:
Cataract screening and surgery
Provision of reading glasses
General consultation
Basic optical support
The initiative's primary goal is to improve awareness of eye health, facilitate the early detection of common vision challenges, and support preventive healthcare practices within the ABU community.
The University Management has encouraged all staff and students to take advantage of the free exercise. The services will be conducted by a team of qualified eye health professionals and support personnel.
The announcement was formally signed and issued by the Public Affairs Directorate, Office of the Vice-Chancellor.
