Ajayi Crowther University Appoints First Female Vice-Chancellor

Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, has appointed Professor Ebunoluwa Oduwole as its first-ever female Vice-Chancellor.

The appointment was ratified by the university's council and announced on July 8, 2025. Professor Oduwole will succeed the current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Adebayo, whose tenure concludes in a few months.

 The rich background in philosophy. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Ibadan, a Master of Science in Bioethics from a consortium of European universities, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Ibadan.

Professor Oduwole has extensive experience in academia and administration. She joined Olabisi Onabanjo University in 1985 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of African Philosophy. She has held various leadership positions, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Administration), Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Head of Department of Philosophy, and Dean of the Faculty of Arts.

The appointment of Professor Oduwole as the first female Vice-Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University marks a significant milestone for the institution and a step forward for women in leadership positions in Nigerian universities. Her wealth of experience and academic expertise make her well-suited for the role.
