The Students' Union Government (SUG) of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has issued an important update following a successful engagement with University Management concerning the new academic calendar and student financial welfare.
According to a statement signed by SUG President Comr. Elijah Ekanem, students who have applied for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) will be safeguarded. Management has assured that eligible students will be allowed to use the loan to pay their school fees for the current session once disbursements are finalized. Importantly, no student will be disadvantaged due to technical delays in loan approval or disbursement.

In addressing financial concerns, the University reiterated that students should not defer, withdraw, or suspend their studies because of school fee challenges or pending loan processes.
The SUG leadership is also encouraging all eligible students who have not yet applied for NELFUND to do so immediately, emphasizing that the loan is designed to provide financial continuity and reduce immediate out-of-pocket burdens.
Acknowledging previous administrative challenges, the University noted that new measures are being implemented to prevent payment conflicts and ensure a smoother process for students.
President Ekanem further urged the student community to remain calm, focused, and patient while financial processes are finalized, assuring that the Union will continue active engagement with Management and relevant stakeholders to protect student welfare and academic interests.
Students are advised to stay updated through official AKSU and SUG communication channels for further instructions.
