Akwa Ibom State University Launches Campus Sports Clubs to Promote Student Well-being

Akwa Ibom State University has unveiled plans to leverage sports as a tool to enhance students' social well-being and combat cultism and other social vices on campus. The university has established several sports clubs, offering students free membership and opportunities for active participation.

The Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Otoabasi Akpan, made the announcement during the grand finale of the 2025 Vice-Chancellor's Cup. The sports clubs include Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Tennis, Snooker, Cycling, Chess, Scrabble, Football, Cricket, and Golf.

The university also plans to construct an indoor sports hall and develop a three-hole golf course on the main campus .
