ASUU NEC Issues Strike Warning to Federal and State Governments Over Agreement Violations
The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a stern warning to both Federal and State governments running public universities, demanding the immediate implementation of pending commitments or risk a major industrial action.
The warning was delivered on Monday during a comprehensive press briefing at the conclusion of the union’s four-day statutory NEC meeting hosted in Yola.
The apex decision-making body of the union expressed deep dissatisfaction with what it termed the “distorted and non-implementation of the December 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement.” The union leadership accused the government of institutional neglect and failing to uphold the fiscal and welfare terms mutually ratified at the close of the preceding year.
According to the NEC communique, the continued failure of the state and federal authorities to implement the signed resolutions compromises the stability of the public university system. The union stated that while it has consistently pursued peaceful avenues for resolution, its members nationwide may be left with no choice but to take decisive industrial actions if the breach of trust persists.

ASUU urged stakeholders, parents, and the general public to hold the government responsible for any impending disruptions to the academic calendar, emphasizing that the complete execution of the December 2025 agreement remains non-negotiable for maintaining industrial harmony in tertiary institutions.
