ATBU Vice-Chancellor Disowns Fake Facebook Account

The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has disowned a fake Facebook account falsely attributed to its Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Usman Kunya. The university issued a press release warning the public that the account, which sought money under the pretense of facilitating a contract, is fraudulent.

The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has officially disassociated itself from a fraudulent Facebook account purporting to be managed by the university's Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Usman Kunya. This development was communicated in a press release issued on Monday by Zailani Bappa, the university's Director of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations.

The statement highlights that the Acting Vice-Chancellor was alerted by a concerned individual about a fake Facebook account set up in his name, with the malicious intent of defrauding unsuspecting people. The fraudulent account was reportedly used to solicit large sums of money under the guise of facilitating a contract award.

The university's press release clearly states, “The Acting Vice-Chancellor will never engage in any official transactions via social media or request financial favors for any purpose.” It also emphasizes that Professor Kunya does not possess a Facebook account and has not authorized anyone to manage a social media account on his behalf.
