Bayero University Kano SUG Issues Official Statement on NELFUND Disbursement; Urges Student Calm

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), under the leadership of Abdulmudallib Kalli Sheriff, has issued an official bulletin addressing the ongoing concerns regarding the disbursement of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

In a special bulletin released on Saturday, 28th March 2026, the Union acknowledged the urgency of the situation and the anxieties expressed by the student body regarding the delay in funds reaching eligible candidates.

The SUG confirmed that it has been actively involved in high-level deliberations with the University Management, the NELFUND Desk Office, and other relevant stakeholders. The statement clarified that while progress is being made, the disbursement process involves multiple administrative layers that extend beyond the Union’s direct control.

"We wish to firmly state that the Union has been consistently engaged from the very beginning," the statement read. "We are continuously working—and still engaging—to ensure that the process is fair, transparent, and expedited in the best interest of our students."

The Union leadership commended the students for the "patience, understanding, and maturity" demonstrated thus far. To ensure a peaceful resolution, the SUG urged all students to remain calm and law-abiding while the executive team continues to "intensify engagements" on both the frontlines and behind the scenes.

The bulletin concluded with a reaffirmation of the SUG’s commitment to safeguarding student interests. The leadership assured the campus community that they remain resolute in their efforts to address all legitimate concerns until the disbursement process is successfully concluded.
