Ceiling Collapse Injures Several OAU Students During Lecture

Several students at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) sustained injuries when the ceiling of the Oduduwa hall collapsed during a lecture on Thursday morning. According to a statement by the university's spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, the incident occurred due to torrential rainfall accompanied by a whirlwind.

The statement revealed that the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, promptly responded by leading other principal officers to the university's medical and health center to ensure that the injured students received adequate medical attention. Additionally, two students requiring further medical attention were transferred to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), where the Chief Medical Director, John Okeniyi, supervised their treatment.

Expressing concern over the incident, the vice-chancellor appealed for calm and urged students and staff to continue their academic and administrative activities. As a precautionary measure, the university management sealed off the amphitheatre, where the incident occurred, until further notice.
