CMD Lays Foundation for MDCAN Administrative Building at UCH
The Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, on Wednesday, 16th August 2026, laid the foundation for the Administrative Building of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, MDCAN, UCH Chapter.
The foundation-laying ceremony, one of the activities lined up for the chapter's ongoing Annual General Meeting, was held at the allocated site along East Gate within the hospital premises.
In his opening address, the Chairman of MDCAN, UCH Chapter, Dr Kolawole Akande, welcomed the hospital management and other dignitaries, describing the project as a historic milestone for the association.
The immediate past Chairman of the association, Dr Foluke Fasola, while giving a brief history of the project, appreciated the hospital management for its support. She disclosed that the land for the building was allocated to the association by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Otegbayo, on 23rd August 2023.
Dr Fasola explained that the proposed administrative building will comprise a 250-capacity hall, self-contained bedrooms and other modern facilities that will serve the administrative and welfare needs of members.
Laying the foundation, Prof. Otegbayo commended the leadership and members of MDCAN for their vision, unity and commitment to the growth of the association and the hospital.
He described the project as timely and laudable, noting that it will enhance the administrative capacity of the association and provide a befitting edifice for consultants in the nation's premier teaching hospital.

He urged members of the association to intensify efforts at mobilising resources for the project by reaching out to well-meaning Nigerians, philanthropists and corporate organisations to assist in funding and ensuring its timely completion.
He congratulated the association and expressed optimism that the building, when completed, will stand as a legacy project of the current leadership.
