Dr Raheemat Adefolake Adeniran has made history at Fountain University, Osogbo, becoming the institution's first Professor of Mass Communication and the first female professor in its College of Management and Social Sciences.

History has been made at Fountain University, Osogbo, with the appointment of Dr. Raheemat Adefolake Adeniran as the institution’s first Professor of Mass Communication.

A product of the Lagos State University School of Communication, Prof. Adeniran also made history as the first Professor in the College of Management and Social Sciences, where she currently serves as Dean.

Her appointment was disclosed in a statement released by the institution and signed by the Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council, Mr. Sheriff Adeyemi Adenekan.

According to the statement, the appointment was approved at the 67th Meeting of the Governing Council of Fountain University, held on Monday, September 21.

The statement read in part: “Fountain University, Osogbo, has appointed Dr. Raheemat Adefolake Adeniran as the University’s first Professor of Mass Communication, marking a significant milestone in the growth of the discipline and the academic development of the institution.

“Professor Adeniran’s elevation represents a double milestone for Fountain University. In addition to becoming the first Professor of Mass Communication in the University, she is also the first female Professor in the College of Management and Social Sciences, where she currently serves as Dean.

“Her appointment therefore marks an important chapter in the academic history of both the Department of Mass Communication and the College of Management and Social Sciences, reflecting the University’s continued development of its academic leadership and recognition of scholarly achievement.

“As the pioneer Professor of Mass Communication at Fountain University, Professor Adeniran’s elevation further strengthens the academic profile of a discipline that plays an important role in communication, media, journalism, public relations and the broader information ecosystem. Her new status is also expected to contribute to the continued advancement of teaching, research, mentorship and intellectual development within the discipline.

“The milestone is particularly significant within the College of Management and Social Sciences, where Professor Adeniran’s appointment as its first female Professor adds another dimension to the College’s academic history. The statement added that Prof. Adeniran’s elevation comes alongside other significant academic appointments approved by the Governing Council at its meeting, underscoring the University’s commitment to strengthening its academic capacity and recognising excellence within its ranks.
