Minister of Works David Umahi has awarded a university scholarship to Obasi Victor Nnanna, the highest UTME scorer in Ebonyi State for 2026. Nnanna, a pioneer student of King David Gifted Academy, earned the reward following his outstanding examination performance.
Ebonyi State’s highest scorer in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Obasi Victor Nnanna, has been awarded a university scholarship by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, in recognition of his exceptional academic achievement.
The scholarship was announced shortly after Umahi received news of the student's outstanding performance from King David Gifted Academy, Abakaliki, a school he founded during his tenure as Governor of Ebonyi State.
Expressing his excitement over the achievement, the minister attributed the success to God's grace and immediately pledged support for the young scholar's university education.
“I give God the glory. I offer a scholarship to this child,” Umahi said.

Nnanna belongs to the pioneer set of students admitted into King David Gifted Academy, an elite institution established in 2016 with the aim of nurturing academically gifted students and producing future leaders.
Since its inception, the academy has gained national recognition for its strong academic culture and impressive performances in major examinations. The latest feat by Nnanna further reinforces the school's reputation as a centre of excellence in secondary education.
The scholarship award is expected to encourage other students across Ebonyi State and beyond to strive for academic excellence, while highlighting the impact of investments in quality education and talent development.
Observers have described the gesture as a timely reward for hard work and dedication, demonstrating the value of recognising and supporting exceptional academic performance among young Nigerians.
