Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, has refuted a viral online video alleging that staff involved in final-year clearance demand illicit payments referred to as “owo ayo.”
The clarification was issued by the Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs, led by Deputy Registrar Olofinmuagun Bode, Ph.D.
According to the university, the video created and circulated by an online content creator identified as Oluwagold is misleading, damaging, and inconsistent with established institutional procedures. EKSU described the video as an attempt to malign the reputation the institution has built over the years.
Management stated that it holds regular engagements with the leadership of the Students’ Union, and at no time was such an allegation raised. The institution also highlighted that its official complaint channel, speakup@eksu.edu.ng, has not received any report related to the claims made in the video.
EKSU emphasized that the content creator’s portrayal is baseless and should be disregarded entirely, reaffirming that the university does not condone extortion or misconduct in its administrative processes.
The institution encouraged students with genuine grievances to use all existing official channels to report any inappropriate behaviour from staff, stressing that EKSU remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the protection of students’ rights.
