Federal Polytechnic Damaturu Participates in World Environment Day Commemoration

The Federal Polytechnic Damaturu participated in the World Environment Day commemoration organized by the Nigerian Environmental Society, Yobe state Chapter.
The event took place at the Federal Polytechnic Damaturu Auditorium and was attended by dignitaries, including the Rector of the institution.
The Deputy Rector Academics, Engr. Dr. Shettima Umara Ali, representing the Rector, emphasized the urgent need to combat environmental degradation caused by the improper disposal and management of plastic waste. He called on government officials and relevant agencies to take immediate and effective action to ensure the sustainable management of environmental resources.
Dr. Ali also requested the Yobe State government to provide seedlings for planting at the Polytechnic, reaffirming the institution's dedication to sustainable environmental protection practices.
The Honorable Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment, Hon. Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa, attributed the issues surrounding plastic waste management to poor oversight and the pervasive use of single-use plastics. He called upon everyone to support the state government's efforts in addressing the plastic pollution crisis.
The Honorable Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, RT Hon. Buba Chiroma Mashio, mentioned ongoing efforts to amend environmental laws to align with international practice.
The event highlighted the importance of addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable practices.
