In a historic academic event held today, Tuesday, February 3, 2026, the Federal University Gashua (FUGA) hosted its Maiden Inaugural Lecture. The landmark session was chaired by Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Lafia (FULafia). 

The inaugural lecture was delivered by the host Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maimuna Waziri, a distinguished Professor of Analytical Chemistry. Her presentation, titled “Academic Inputs into Bequeathing a Sustainable Environment for Nigerians: My Efforts, Challenges and the Journey So Far,” offered a comprehensive reflection on her research contributions toward environmental sustainability in Nigeria.

A Historic "First": Professor Waziri made history as the first academic to be assessed and promoted to the rank of Professor within Federal University Gashua to deliver an inaugural lecture.

Inter-University Collaboration: The presence of Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman as the Chairman of the occasion underscored the strong collaborative ties between Nigeria's federal institutions.

Research Focus: The lecture detailed practical academic interventions aimed at addressing environmental degradation, emphasizing the critical role of Analytical Chemistry in solving national ecological challenges.

Venue and Attendance: The event took place at the university's 1000 Capacity Lecture Hall and was attended by a broad spectrum of the academic community, government officials, and traditional leaders from Yobe State. 

The lecture also served as a valedictory academic milestone for Professor Waziri, whose tenure as the third substantive Vice-Chancellor of FUGA is drawing to a close.
