Federal University Lokoja’s College of Health Sciences Hosts Inaugural Medical Education Workshop
The College of Health Sciences at Federal University Lokoja (FUL) reached a significant milestone on Monday, March 9, 2026, with the successful delivery of its Inaugural Medical Education Workshop and Staff Training.
Held at the Adankolo Campus, the intensive session focused on the critical pillars of curriculum development, mentorship, and the eradication of academic malpractice within medical training.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gbenga Ibileye, formally opened the workshop, emphasizing that excellence in medical education must be a deliberate and responsive pursuit. He warned that any gaps in the training of medical professionals have direct, real-world consequences for patient care and community health.
"Such training should ideally be compulsory for both students and staff," Prof. Ibileye stated, reaffirming his administration's goal to achieve "more than 100 percent growth" and ensure that assessment procedures are universally understood across the College.

The Provost of the College, Prof. Mike O. Ogirima, mni, described the training as a "long overdue" intervention necessary for staff to stay abreast of rapid global developments in medicine. He extended appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for prioritizing the program and acknowledged the vital participation of resource persons from the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja.
Prof. Solomon Kadiri (Professor of Nephrology): Delivered a lecture on current trends in medical education, identifying key stakeholders—including patients and licensing bodies—and highlighting the societal demand for improved doctor-patient communication.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Dr. Omotoso Olusegun Dare, underscored the necessity of continuous professional development to maintain the integrity of medical degrees and the quality of future healthcare providers.
The workshop concludes a series of strategic moves by FUL to solidify its College of Health Sciences as a premier center for medical excellence in Nigeria.
