FG Releases ₦2.5 Billion to Clear University Lecturers’ Salary Arrears
The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved and released ₦2.3 billion to settle outstanding salary and promotion arrears owed to university lecturers across the country.
This was confirmed on Wednesday by the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to resolving all welfare and funding issues in the education sector transparently and sustainably.
According to Folasade Boriowo, the Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Education, the funds were processed through the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation as Batch 8 salary and promotion arrears.
Dr. Alausa noted that the payment marks another step in the government’s efforts to clear inherited backlogs and improve the welfare of both academic and non-academic staff in federal universities.
“A total of ₦2.311 billion, representing Batch 8 salary and promotion arrears, has been released through the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to universities. Beneficiary institutions should start receiving payment alerts shortly,” Alausa stated.
He added that the release further reflects the Tinubu administration’s determination to enhance stability and accountability within Nigeria’s higher education system.
