First Lady Commissions KWASU ICT Experience Centre

Kwara State University, Malete, on Tuesday, 15th September 2026, hosted dignitaries for the commissioning of the TETFund/Renewed Hope Initiative ICT Experience Centre.

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who commissioned the Centre, described the project as representing opportunity, innovation, knowledge and hope for the future of young people in Kwara State.

Senator Tinubu, who was represented by the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, said the project aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in its emphasis on youth empowerment, innovation and economic transformation.

"Mr President remains committed to creating opportunities that will equip Nigerian youth with the knowledge and skills required to thrive in a modern and competitive world. I am informed that this facility has been designed as a modern technology centre equipped with ICT laboratories, interactive digital displays, conference facilities and exhibition spaces. It will provide an enabling environment for learning, creativity, research and technological advancement," she said.

The Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, said his administration is determined to advance education in the state, with significant attention paid to upgrading tertiary institutions.

"Here in Kwara State, our government prioritises education, health care and infrastructure that ensures the well-being of the people. Our government has committed significant attention to upgrading tertiary institutions in the state, expanding access to the youth. This is because we recognise that the youth are our future and all investments in them is an investment in a brighter and greater future," he said.

He added that his administration will continue to support initiatives that strengthen education, innovation and human capital development and work with KWASU and other tertiary institutions to create an enabling environment for teaching, research, innovation and entrepreneurship, particularly initiatives that translate academic knowledge into solutions for communities.

In her address, the wife of the Governor of Kwara State, Ambassador Olufolake AbdulRazaq, commended Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her vision and determination to break barriers to functional skill acquisition for the youth, noting that such projects give Nigerian youth opportunities to succeed.

The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, Arc. Sonny Echono, represented by the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Arc. Babatunde Olajide, said Kwara State University is one of six tertiary institutions selected for the pilot phase of the intervention, with one institution representing each of Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.

In his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Malete, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, described the project as a definitive statement to the youth that the leadership of Nigeria recognises their potential and is investing in them.

"This Centre is an investment in human capital, in innovation, in entrepreneurship and, most importantly, it is an investment in the future of Nigeria. This centre will provide opportunities for our students to develop practical digital skills and engage with contemporary technologies. Importantly, it is our hub for interdisciplinary engagement," he said.

He noted that the ICT Experience Centre is a timely, critical and strategic infrastructure that will enhance research, teaching, learning, entrepreneurship and community service.
