FUASK and Federal Fire Service Strengthen Collaboration on Fire Safety

The Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, has taken steps to ensure a safer campus after hosting the Kaduna State Command of the Federal Fire Service on Thursday, September 24, 2026.

Led by the State Controller, DCF Aminu Ahmadu Kiyawa, the Fire Service team met with FUASK management to discuss fire prevention, emergency planning, safety awareness and areas for long-term collaboration.

The meeting highlighted the need for proactive steps to protect lives, university property and key facilities. Both parties agreed that beyond emergency response, prevention and building a strong safety culture on campus must come first.

A major proposal was the possibility of setting up a Fire Service unit within FUASK to allow for faster emergency response and ensure that all university buildings meet required fire safety standards.

The Fire Service also emphasised the role of regular training, sensitisation and public awareness through drills, workshops and structured programmes to equip students and staff with practical skills in fire prevention, emergency response and safe evacuation.

Responding on behalf of management, Prof. Lazarus Yusufu Mungu, Provost of the College of Medicine, thanked the delegation for the visit, describing the partnership as timely and important. He reaffirmed FUASK’s commitment to working with the Federal Fire Service to make the campus safer through training, capacity building and joint preparedness initiatives.

Also present were Arc. Abel Simon Bivan, Director of Physical Planning; Adamu Nuhu Bargo, Director of Public Affairs; and ACP Philip Dogo (Rtd), Chief Security Officer of the University.

The University said the engagement reflects its broader goal of building strong partnerships with government agencies to promote responsible growth, institutional safety and a resilient university community.
