UNIDEL Computing Students Face Post-SIWES Assessment

The Faculty of Computing, University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, has subjected its 300-level students to a post-Industrial Training assessment designed to test the knowledge, skills and practical experience acquired during the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).
The assessment, held on Monday, September 21, 2026, provided an opportunity for students to demonstrate their understanding of the SIWES report undertaken during their external industrial training and defend their work before panels constituted by the Faculty.
Speaking on the exercise, the Acting Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Ejaita A. Okpako, said the assessment was designed to determine how thoroughly the students were grounded during their industrial attachment.
Dr. Okpako explained that the assessment was a two-pronged exercise aimed at establishing not only the students’ exposure during the SIWES programme, but also their personal understanding and mastery of the reports they submitted. According to him, the exercise was particularly important in an era where students have increasing access to artificial intelligence tools and other digital technologies.
He said the assessment was designed to ascertain whether the students had genuinely gone through the rigours of developing and documenting their reports rather than relying excessively on artificial intelligence.
The exercise saw the students appearing before different assessment panels where they defended their reports, answered questions and demonstrated their understanding of the processes, methodologies and technical considerations underpinning their work.
Four panels were constituted for the exercise. Group A, which held its assessment at the Faculty Board Room, was led by Dr. Fidelis O. Aghware, with Dr. Osagie Maxwell, Mr. C. C. Egbon, Dr. Ojie D. V. and Ms. Snow Monye as members.
Group B, based at the Cyber Security Laboratory, was led by Dr. Malasowe, with Mr. Dono Okeh, Dr. Austine Orukpe and Mr. Boyce Iyamah as members. Group C, at the ICT Laboratory, was led by Dr. Richard Oveh, with Dr. Emuobonuvie A., Mr. M. C. Opone and Mr. Emmanuel Ikhine as members. Group D, at the Computer Science Laboratory, was led by Dr. Sophia Mughele, with Dr. Ihama Eyotor, Mr. Lucky Okoh and Ms. Nkechi Isitor as members.
