FUNAAB Modernises Medical Records with Maiden Health Data Management Training
The Directorate of Health Services at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has launched a landmark capacity-building initiative to digitise its medical operations and enhance patient care through advanced analytics.
Organised on February 4, 2026, the maiden Health Data Management and Analytics (HDMA) Training Workshop targeted staff of the Medical Records Unit, equipping them with essential Information Technology skills to manage the university's newly automated clinical attendance and admission systems.
The Acting Director of Health Services, Dr. Oluseyi Anjorin, hailed the workshop as a "significant milestone" for the University Health Centre. He emphasized that transitioning from manual records to data-driven systems is critical for institutional professionalism and efficiency.
Facilitated by Mr. Saliu Muhammed, Head of the Medical Records Unit, the training aligns with World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations for the global computerisation of medical records.
On Decision-Making: Prof. Olaniyi Olayiwola from the Department of Statistics noted that inadequate data management is a primary driver of health crises, stressing that precise analytics are vital for informed clinical decisions.
On Technical Synergy: The Acting Director of the Directorate of ICT Services (DICTS), Mr. Temitope Soretire, pledged full technical support to ensure the Health Centre remains a model of health information technology in Nigeria.
The workshop concluded with staff demonstrating proficiency in the new HDMA system, which is expected to:
Eliminate delays in patient registration and admission.
Ensure data integrity for research and administrative planning.
Standardise records in line with international healthcare benchmarks.
The event featured the presentation of certificates to participants and an award of honour to Mr. Saliu Muhammed for his leadership in spearheading the unit's digital transformation.
