NOUN Honors Outgoing VC Prof. Peters with "Rain of Praises" as Five-Year Tenure Concludes
It was a day of tributes and prayers at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) as the Governing Council hosted a high-profile send-off ceremony for the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olufemi Ayinde Peters, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
The event, held at the university's Conference Centre, marks the transition of leadership ahead of Prof. Peters' official completion of his five-year tenure on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. He will be succeeded by Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Rauf (represented by State Minister Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad), joined university leaders in celebrating Prof. Peters as a transformative figure who "came, saw, and conquered."
The Chairman of the NOUN Governing Council, Mallam Isa Yuguda, detailed the Vice-Chancellor's significant milestones, which have redefined Open and Distance Learning (ODL) in Nigeria:
Technological Advancement: Modernizing digital infrastructure to align with global ODL standards.
Student Welfare: The landmark introduction of a comprehensive health insurance programme for NOUN students nationwide.
Research Empowerment: Pushing institutional boundaries through the introduction of substantial research grants for academic staff.
Infrastructural Growth: The development of long-term facilities that have positioned NOUN as a leader in global education.
Mallam Yuguda emphasized that Prof. Peters’ administration was characterized by "future-shaping" structures that have secured the institution's reputation. The emotion-filled ceremony served as a formal acknowledgment of his contributions before the official handover to the incoming Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, next week.
