FUTA Alumnus Timilehin Oguntuyaki Earns PhD from Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada

An alumnus of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Timilehin A. Oguntuyaki, has successfully defended his PhD thesis at Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada.

Oguntuyaki announced the achievement following the successful defence of his PhD thesis on September 1, 2026, expressing gratitude to God and those who supported him throughout his academic journey.

His educational journey began at the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, before he proceeded to the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), and later the University of British Columbia. He eventually completed his doctoral studies at the Memorial University School of Graduate Studies.

Celebrating the achievement, Oguntuyaki described the completion of his doctoral programme as a significant milestone and expressed appreciation to his supervisor, Dr. Penny Morrill, for her training and support throughout his academic development.

He also acknowledged the members of his supervisory committee, as well as colleagues and friends at the DELTAS Research Group and the MUN Earth Science Department, for their contributions and support.

Oguntuyaki expressed special appreciation to his wife, Dunsin Oguntuyaki, whom he described as his “literal support structure” for him and their children throughout the journey.

He also thanked his parents, Prince Michael and Deborah Oguntuyaki, for their support and commitment, while extending his appreciation to his siblings for their love, prayers and encouragement.

The new PhD holder also acknowledged the contributions of friends, mentors, co-authors and others who supported, guided and encouraged him at different stages of his academic journey.

Reflecting on the achievement, Oguntuyaki celebrated his transition to the title of Dr. and attributed the accomplishment to God.

He concluded by looking forward to the next chapter of his academic and professional journey.
