The Department of Meteorological and Climate Science (MCS) at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has been reconfirmed as a World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Regional Training Centre (RTC) for another five-year term.

The recognition was formalized in a Certificate of Recognition signed by WMO Secretary-General Professor Celeste Saulo. The certificate cites Resolution 8 (EC-79) of the WMO Executive Council’s seventy-ninth session in June 2025, confirming FUTA’s status as a WMO RTC in Nigeria.

Professor Vincent Ajayi, Head of the Department of MCS, highlighted the benefits of the reconfirmation, including access to WMO courseware, training materials, journals, and opportunities for staff development. The designation also allows FUTA to host WMO-sponsored scholars from across Africa, further enhancing its role in advancing meteorology and climate science education on the continent.
