FUTA’s Akindeko Hostel Set for Major Renovation
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has flagged off the remodeling of its flagship hall of residence, Akindeko Hostel, the first and oldest hostel on campus.

The project officially began on Thursday, September 18, 2025, with a site-handover ceremony between the University management and the contractor, DKT Consult Ltd.
Director of Physical Planning, Engr. Oladeji Boyinbode, expressed appreciation to management for prioritizing the restoration of the hostel, which had deteriorated over the years. He noted that the renovation will commence immediately after students vacate the hostel at the close of the 2024/2025 academic session, adding that the University expects a swift and quality job within the agreed timeframe.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, at the event, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Timothy Amos, stressed the importance of Akindeko Hostel, describing it as FUTA’s flagship hall of residence. He said management’s decision to modernize it is a deliberate effort to improve student welfare and restore the hostel to its pride of place.
Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Olanrewaju Oke, who recalled his days as a resident of Akindeko Hostel, described the initiative as a source of pride for both present and former students. He commended the management for its commitment to student welfare and infrastructure.
On behalf of the contractor, Engr. Achimugu Dickson of DKT Consult Ltd. assured that the renovation will be comprehensive, covering the roof, windows, doors, toilets, electrical fittings (converted to conduit style), boreholes, water tanks, and recreation areas. The project will also include perimeter fencing for enhanced security. He pledged that the work would be delivered within 10 months.
The remodeling marks a new chapter for Akindeko Hostel, reaffirming FUTA’s commitment to creating a conducive and modern living environment for its students.
