FUTES-IYIN Launches Staff Cooperative Society, Holds Maiden Congress

The Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences (FUTES-IYIN) has launched its Staff Cooperative Multipurpose Society with a call on members of staff to embrace the initiative as a platform for collective financial empowerment, disciplined savings and improved welfare.

The Registrar of the University, Mr Oluwole Dada, represented at the maiden Congress of the Cooperative Society by Mr Dare Aladeloba, encouraged members of staff to subscribe to the cooperative initiative and take advantage of the opportunities it offers.

Aladeloba, who spoke on behalf of the Registrar, underscored the importance of collective financial initiatives in strengthening staff welfare. He urged members to actively participate in the activities of the society and support its growth.

The Bursar, Mrs Ajayi Rachael, also charged members to approach the cooperative with trust, honesty and a strong commitment to its rules and regulations.

Drawing from her years of experience as Chairman of a cooperative society, Ajayi stressed that integrity, transparency and accountability remained essential to the sustainability of any cooperative society.

She encouraged members to cultivate a consistent savings culture, noting that the essence of a cooperative goes beyond accessing loans to building a sustainable financial system capable of improving the wellbeing of its members.

Also speaking, the University Librarian, Professor Isaac Busayo, commended the establishment of the cooperative, describing it as a worthwhile initiative that could contribute meaningfully to the financial wellbeing of members of staff.

Earlier in his welcome address, the President of the Cooperative Society, Mr Adebayo Kehinde, said the society was established primarily to serve the interests of staff and provide a platform for their collective financial advancement.

While appreciating the University Management under the leadership of the pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Aribisala, for approving the establishment of the society, Kehinde assured members that the leadership of the cooperative was committed to transparency, accountability and responsible management.

He identified access to loans, savings and collective financial empowerment among the major objectives of the society.

The Congress featured presentations on the society's operational guidelines, including contribution requirements and loan eligibility, among other matters.

The meeting also featured an interactive question-and-answer session, during which members sought clarifications on various aspects of the society's operations.
