FUTO Student Arrested for Alleged Rape, Faces Legal Proceedings

The arrest of Okoroafor Emmanuel Chinedu, a final year Environmental Science student at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), has sent shockwaves through the university community following allegations of rape involving several female students.

Chinedu, who also serves as the Commander of the Man O' War Security Organization at FUTO, was apprehended by operatives from the Nekede Divisional Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force on the evening of Friday, July 12, within the university premises.
According to sources, Chinedu's arrest was prompted by a petition submitted to the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, by the Onurube Gender-Based Coalition. The coalition, represented by its Convener Marjorie Ezihe, accused Chinedu of abusing his authority within the university to exploit and assault fellow students.

Following the submission of the petition, Commissioner Aboki Danjuma ordered Chinedu's transfer to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the police headquarters in Owerri for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
