Demonstration Secondary School Honours Outstanding Students At 28th Prize-Giving Ceremony

Demonstration Secondary School on Friday, 31 July 2026, held its 28th Annual Speech and Prize-Giving Day in a colourful ceremony that brought together education stakeholders, government officials, parents, alumni, and distinguished guests to celebrate academic excellence and exceptional character among its students.

The event featured the presentation of prestigious prizes and awards to students who distinguished themselves in academics, leadership, sports, and other extracurricular activities.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Services, Professor Ahmed Waziri, congratulated the graduating students and award recipients, stressing that academic excellence must always be accompanied by good character and discipline. He reminded the students that integrity, respect, honesty, and self-discipline are the true qualities that distinguish successful individuals in every sphere of life. Commending the dedication of the school management, teachers, and parents, he noted that certificates alone are never enough without exemplary conduct and a strong moral foundation.

In her welcome address, the Principal of Demonstration Secondary School, Mrs. Aishatu Kaka Bukar, expressed profound appreciation to the University Management, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders for their unwavering support toward the continuous growth and development of the school. She noted that the institution has consistently upheld high academic standards while aggressively promoting discipline and character development. She charged the graduating students to remain worthy ambassadors of the school in all their future endeavours.

Delivering his remarks as the Father of the Occasion, Professor Mala Daura described education as the greatest investment any society can make. He urged the students to embrace integrity, perseverance, and hard work as they pursue higher education and their future careers. He also highly commended the school for sustaining its long-standing tradition of academic excellence and consistently producing well-rounded graduates.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the special recognition of Balkisu Mala Daura, who emerged as the overall best graduating student. Recording exceptional performances across most of her subjects, she earned the highest number of prizes presented during the ceremony. Her remarkable accomplishments drew widespread admiration from the guests and served as a massive inspiration to her peers.

Dignitaries in attendance included the Borno State Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr. Adam Bukar Bababe, alongside senior government officials, members of the University community, education administrators, traditional leaders, and parents.
