Governor Buni grants automatic employment to record-breaking first-class physics graduate, Surayya Muhammad Kabir
The Executive Governor of Yobe State, His Excellency, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN, has officially approved the automatic employment of Miss Surayya Muhammad Kabir as a Graduate Assistant at Yobe State University (YSU).
The announcement follows Miss Kabir’s unprecedented academic performance in the Department of Physics, where she graduated in 2023 with a First-Class degree and a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.84. This achievement earned her the title of Overall Best Graduating Student of the University for the 2023 session.
Miss Kabir’s feat is particularly historic as she has set an unbroken 20-year academic record. Since the inception of the Department of Physics at YSU in 2006, no other graduate has attained a 4.84 CGPA, making her the highest-performing student in the department’s history to date in 2026.
Governor Buni hosted Miss Kabir today during a courtesy and appreciation visit, where he lauded her brilliance and dedication. Prior to this appointment, she had been serving her alma mater as a volunteer tutor, demonstrating a selfless commitment to the academic growth of her peers.
The Governor’s decision to transition her into a formal faculty role highlights his administration's policy of rewarding excellence and empowering youth in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). By securing this position at Yobe State University, Miss Kabir is positioned to mentor the next generation of scholars while contributing to the institution’s research profile.
This gesture further reinforces Governor Mai Mala Buni’s reputation for compassionate leadership and his steadfast investment in the human capital development of Yobe State.
