Governor Sule awards 33 million Naira to best Graduands at the NSUK 7th Convocation

The Visitor to Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule has pledged the sum of One Million Naira to each of the Thirty-Three graduands of the University who graduated with First Class Honors.

The Governor made the pronouncement at the Convocation Arena of the University while addressing Graduands of the 7th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday 27th May 2023.

Governor Sule said the gesture is meant to encourage and appreciate the efforts of the graduands and to serve as a moral booster to other students to put in their best in their educational pursuits.

Governor Sule while noting the premium his administration places on education remarked that the baseline survey for the education sector has been completed, in addition to the 3000 teachers already employed another set of 1000 teachers will be recruited to further strengthen the educational sector, to this end, the Governor assured that graduands especially those with First Class and Second Class honors in Education will be given special preference during the recruitment exercise.

In a related development, the outgoing Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari has revealed that Africa’s richest Entrepreneur and Chairman of the Dangote Group of Industries, Alhaji Aliko Dangote GCON, is set to establish the Aliko Dangote Sugar Research Centre of Excellence in the University.

Professor Gambari remarked shortly after he was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in recognition of his immense contribution to International Relations and for being the longest-serving Nigerian Ambassador to the United Nations.

Professor Gambari who identified Infrastructure as a critical challenge facing not only the development of Universities such as Nasarawa State University but Nigeria as a whole assured that as an Alumnus of the University, he will use his social capital to address some of the challenges at his new Alma Matter.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the Chancellor of the University, and Emir of Keffi, Alhaji Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, expressed gratitude to the Visitor to the University for the support the Institution is receiving, and also to Professor Ibrahim Gambari, and Professor Brunon Holyst for accepting the Honorary Doctorate Degrees bestowed on them, he also charged the Graduands to be good Ambassadors of the University.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed disclosed that the University is graduating a total of 5,984 students at the Undergraduate Level, while 1,677 are at the Postgraduate Level.

Professor Suleiman further stated that the University will issue certificates to all graduands immediately after the ceremony stressing that the new certificates now have passport photos embossed on them and QR codes to further strengthen the security of the certificates.

The Highlights of the Convocation Ceremony are the Conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees on Professors Gambari and Holyst and a Handshake with the Visitor and Chancellor by the Postgraduate Graduands.
