General Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission into a postgraduate programme at the university, candidates must possess a minimum of five O'Level credit passes, including English Language, Mathematics and three relevant subjects, at not more than two sittings.

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD, PGDE)

Candidates seeking admission into the PGD/PGDE programme must hold a Third Class Honours first degree in a relevant discipline from any university or a Higher National Diploma (HND) with a minimum of Upper Credit in a relevant discipline.

For unclassified HND certificates, a CGPA of 3.50 on a five-point scale, 3.00 on a four-point scale or 60 per cent shall be considered equivalent to Upper Credit.

Master's Programmes (M.Sc., M.Ed., MLIS, M.Sc.(Ed.), M.Eng.)

Candidates seeking admission into a Master's degree programme must:

i. Be graduates of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike or any other university recognised by the Senate and have obtained a first degree with at least Second Class Honours, with a minimum of 2.50 on a five-point scale or 2.00 on a four-point scale.

ii. Possess a Higher National Diploma (HND) with at least Upper Credit and a Postgraduate Diploma in a relevant field from a recognised institution.

iii. Possess any other certificate or qualification that may be acceptable to the Senate.

M.Phil and M.Phil/Ph.D

Candidates seeking admission into the M.Phil degree programme must:

i. Have a Master's degree in a relevant or related field of study with a CGPA between 3.00 and 3.49.

ii. Meet the general requirements for admission into Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.

For admission into the M.Phil/Ph.D degree programme, candidates must:

i. Have a Master's degree in a relevant field of study with a CGPA between 3.00 and 3.49.

ii. Have a Master's CGPA of 3.50 and above in a related field.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

Candidates seeking admission into the Doctor of Philosophy degree programme must have obtained a Master's degree, including coursework and research, from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike or its equivalent from another university recognised by the Senate in a relevant discipline.

Candidates must have a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a five-point scale, 2.80 on a four-point scale or 60 per cent on a percentage scale.

Method of Application

Interested candidates should visit the MOUAU application portal at and click on the Postgraduate Application button.

The application consists of a two-stage process. Candidates are advised to read the guidelines carefully and follow the instructions to complete the application.

An application fee of N25,000 will be paid to the university through the Remita platform.

After successfully completing the payment, candidates should return to and click on the second-stage link to complete the application process.

After submitting the online form, candidates are expected to print the Transcript Application Label displayed on the portal and forward it to the institution from which they obtained their qualifying degree or degrees.

Completed application forms and all relevant documents should be enclosed in the PG File obtainable from PG Room F2 and returned to:

Academic transcripts must be forwarded by the qualifying institutions to the same address before the closing date.

The university stated that candidates whose transcripts are not received will not be considered for admission.

The closing date for the receipt of completed application forms and transcripts for the 2026/2027 postgraduate admission exercise is six weeks from the date of publication.
