Kogi State University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub, Kabba, Hosts World Environment Day Celebration

In commemoration of the 2025 World Environment Day with the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution,” the Kogi State University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub, Kabba, hosted a landmark event yesterday, June 5, championing global advocacy efforts to eliminate plastic pollution.

The event, organized under the leadership of the Acting Director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub, Dr. Fanisi Babatunde, brought together stakeholders across the university community, including the Visionary Vice Chancellor, Prof. K. I. T. Eniola, members of Management, staff, and students of the institution.

Key resource persons at the event, Dr. Yomi Gideon Barnabas and Mr. Akinrinde of Eureka Standard Plus, gave engaging presentations that explored the dangers of plastic pollution and unveiled the wealth-creating potentials in converting plastic waste into useful products.

Declaring the event open,the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. K. I. T. Eniola commended the Innovation Hub’s leadership for its initiative and commitment to environmental sustainability. He further broke down the day’s theme, urging the university community to take practical steps in reducing plastic waste and protecting the ecosystem.

One of the highlights of the event was a symbolic plastic waste picking exercise, which demonstrated the collective responsibility required to maintain a clean environment. The event concluded with the donation of special tree species by the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub to the University. These trees, intended to serve as wind breakers and environmental buffers, reflect the Hub’s long-term commitment to eco-conscious innovation.

The celebration marks yet another milestone in Kogi State University’s drive to integrate sustainability and innovation in its academic and social culture.
