Kwara State University Athletes Shine at 27th NUGA Games
Kwara State University (KWASU) athletes have made a remarkable impression at the 27th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games, held in Jos, winning a total of eight medals across various sporting events. The university's outstanding performance includes three gold medals, one silver medal, and four bronze medals.
The gold medal winners were Muhammad Akolade Abdullateef in the 75kg Karate male category, Adeoye Timileyin in the 400m hurdles, and the 4×100m mixed relay team consisting of Tolulope Adeyemo, Shehu Abidemi Fatimah, Odunayo Nejo, and Olalekan Christiana. Additionally, Adeoye Timileyin secured a silver medal in the 110m hurdles, while Muhammad Akolade and Abdullah Khadija Youn won bronze medals in Katas.
The KWASU male and female beach volleyball teams also brought home bronze medals, with the male team comprising Ayeni Emmanuel, Lafia Abdulsamad, and Ajayi Ayanfeoluwa Heritage, and the female team featuring Idris Mariam Bisola, Onisabi Aisha Ayinla, and Yusuf Fatima Adeteju.
Speaking on the athletes' achievements, the Vice-Chancellor of KWASU, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, expressed pride in the students' performance, stating that they have brought honour to the university. He commended the KWASU Sports Council and coaching team for their dedication to nurturing sporting talent on campus, and encouraged youth to engage in sports to avoid vices that could jeopardize their future.
