LASU Welcomes 2024/2025 Freshmen with Assurances of Academic Excellence
Lagos State University (LASU) held a two-day orientation programme for newly admitted students of the 2024/2025 academic session on December 5th and 6th, 2024, at the Ojo Campus.
Lagos State University (LASU) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, has reassured newly admitted students of the institution's unwavering commitment to academic excellence and holistic development. Speaking at the 2024/2025 orientation programme held on December 5th and 6th, 2024, at the Buba Marwa Auditorium and the Femi Gbajabiamila Conference Centre, Ojo Campus, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized LASU’s robust faculty and staff, dedicated to shaping the future of the students.
“I am proud to inform you that this university boasts of a galaxy of outstanding members of faculty and staff who are dedicated to providing you with the best education and guidance,” she said. “We will work with you to ensure you reach your full potential and achieve your set objectives. During your stay on campus, the university shall ensure that you are exposed to all the skills and opportunities that will make your academic experience worthwhile.”
Professor Olatunji-Bello also urged the students to uphold exemplary conduct and warned against acts of indiscipline, reiterating the university’s zero tolerance for antisocial behaviors. She added, “Any student found guilty of disrupting the normal academic business of the university will face dire consequences in line with the university guidelines.”
The Acting Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, in his remarks, highlighted the importance of the orientation programme in familiarizing students with the university’s principles and core values. He assured them of the faculty's dedication, saying, “The scholars here are leaders in their fields. They will challenge you, guide you, and open doors to new possibilities. Engage with them, learn from them, and share your ideas.”
Dr. Fatai-Abatan also assured the students of the Division’s commitment to providing robust welfare services, operating an open-door policy, and fostering a stimulating academic environment that promotes innovation and character development.
The two-day event featured a series of enlightening sessions by resource persons who addressed topics such as health, financial matters, counseling services, university laws, academic records, emotional intelligence, and sports. Notable speakers on the first day included representatives of the Bursar and University Librarian, Prof. Tayo Ajayi (Director, LASU-SDGs), Dr. Nasir Ariyibi (Director, Health Services), Dr. Segun Olawunmi (Director, Sports and Recreation), and CSP Oluwole Ojo (Chief Security Coordinator, Rtd.).
The second day featured sessions by Dr. Joseph Ayeni (Deputy Registrar, Counseling Unit), Mrs. Abiodun Meruwoma (Deputy Registrar, Exams and Records), Mr. Olumide Olusola (Bursary Department), and Comrade Nurudeen Eniafe, a former executive member of the Lagos State University Students’ Union (LASUSU).
The event was graced by members of the university’s management, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adenike Boyo; Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel A. Fanu; representative of the Bursar, Mr. Taiwo Omoyin; and University Librarian, Dr. Omawumi Makinde.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the Deputy Registrar, Students’ Affairs Division, Mr. Abdulhameed Lawal.
